On Friday, 4th April, a team from the OHGS met at Royal St George’s to play, in a one-off match, Uppingham to celebrate the centenary of their golfing society.
We were greeted by a beautifully clear day with a cold North Easterly wind, greens that were fast but true and some terrific company.
The morning's matches saw Uppingham spring into a 4-3 lead. Harrow, as it always does, excelled in the bar and dining room and returned to the course in the afternoon in the mood to make amends.
The afternoon's result went in Harrow’s favour with a 4-3 victory.
The overall result was a perfectly balanced 7-7 draw. A most satisfactory result, with some great company.
My thanks to the Harrow team on the day, who were Matthew Gibbens, Hamish Morisson, Jan Brugelmann, Andrew Cox, Charlie Draper, Rupert Fisher, William Spencer, Andrew Moss, John Macpherson, Tim Parsonson, Jeremy Fricker, Robert Nelson, Sacha de Gentile-Williams and Patrick Boyle.
