The Spring Meeting at
THE ROYAL ST GEORGE'S GOLF CLUB, SANDWICH, KENT
This is one of the most popular meetings on the calendar and is enjoyed by golfers of all standards and ages. You will see below details of the competitions played and lower down you can see the names of all the winners over the years. The meeting takes place on a Friday and Saturday, usually at the end of April. Players normally meet for supper somewhere nearby on the Thursday night rather than travelling down late that night or the next morning. There is a black tie dinner in the clubhouse on the Friday evening.
COMPETITIONS
To speed up play we adopt the rule that you may drop a replacement ball near where you think your lost ball lies for a two shot penalty rather than going back to replay the shot. Members aged 70 and over may make use of the forward tees.
Friday am:
a) THE CORONATION CUP Stableford (all handicaps)
b) THE POSFORD CUP Stableford (scratch)
c) THE BORTHWICK CUP Stableford (young members)
The Coronation Cup will count as the qualifying round for the Blackwell-Carlisle and the Trevor Mathews Cups which are played as knockouts. If it is a large field the highest eight high handicappers and highest eight low handicappers play in the knockouts and the finals are played on Saturday afternoon. Otherwise only the highest four players play in the knockouts which then finish on Saturday morning.
Friday pm:
d) BLACKWELL-CARLISLE CUP: Match Play (low handicaps)
e) TREVOR MATHEWS CUP: Match Play (high handicaps)
f) SMOUHA GOBLETS: Foursomes Stableford (1/2 of combined handicap); in the event that there is a single pair remaining at the end of the draw, this pair will play a two ball, better ball (90% of handicaps)
Members who are not playing in the knockout competitions and who wish to play in the afternoon are drawn for partners in the Smouha Goblet competition. Please ensure your cards are clearly marked and returned to the hall table after your round.
Saturday am:
g) PRESIDENT'S SALVERS
Foursomes Stableford (1/2 of combined handicap). Please remember to check and sign your card before leaving it on the hall table inside the entrance to the Club House after your round.
h) BLACKWELL-CARLISLE CUP & TREVOR MATHEWS CUP - Semi-finals or Finals
Saturday pm:
i) BLACKWELL-CARLISLE CUP & TREVOR MATHEWS CUP - Finals (if it is a large field)
Anyone is free to arrange to play golf as your green fees will cover 36 holes but those with a long journey may prefer to travel after lunch.
