Hankley Common 2025

by Stephen Bois

This year we fielded a full 10 players, 6 young and 4 old warriors, a great improvement over recent years when conditions have been an issue. But this time we had a perfect spring day, the sort to dream about during winter months. The course had dried out perfectly from previous week when we were squelching about with target greens.

So we played 2 x 3 balls, led out by Jerome Wilcox, Charles Lee and Paddy Boyle, followed by Toby Leeming, Ben Moore-Brabazon, and Will Spencer, with the veterans as a four following on - Tom Webb, Mike Hall, David Norris and myself, chased all the way round by the local ladies! We observed some fine swings and long hitting in front of us which resulted in some ambitious shots from the heather, but winter rusty players soon settled down and played some steadier golf on a course that few were familiar with.
Most stableford scores achieved the low 30's, including 2 of our elders, but the clear winner by 4 with 37 points was Toby Leeming after an outstanding 23 on the front 9, including an eagle on par 5 8th. !   Well done Toby !

The following 2 letters to me encapsulated what a good day we all had -

Morning Stephen - thank you hosting a wonderful day of golf and great company - it was truly awesome and the course is truly exceptional in a unique setting.  I really enjoyed myself.  Jerome.

A quick note to thank you for a very special day at Hankley Common yesterday. We can’t have asked for more perfect conditions, and it was a real treat to enjoy the course for the first time in such excellent form. As a relatively new joiner to the OHGS, it was also a lovely opportunity for me to meet more members.  Ben.
