The annual match against the Old Etonians was started by Andrew Graham and Douglas Gordon more than 50 years ago and has not always been played at Sunningdale. These days Douglas has handed the reigns to Peter Scaramanga and Andrew is a non-playing match manager who carefully selects his team. Following a victory last year we let him down with a narrow defeat this year, with mitigating circumstances. It was our centenary dinner at Brooks the night before and most of the team had very little sleep and quite a lot of alcohol in their bodies.
We played foursomes on the Old Course followed by lunch at which our respective captains said a few words. Peter had prepared and read a poem in honour of our centenary emphasising the good spirit in which we play. The photograph below also shows John Macpherson the captain of the OHGS.
You can see from the results how close it was despite the mitigating circumstances!
