MATCH REPORT from Andrew Gammon (andrew@agtax.co.uk): OHGS v THE BRIGADE OF GUARDS at WORPLESDON GOLF CLUB on SATURDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2019
The new Brigade of Guards Captain, Alexander Spry, himself an Old Harrovian, produced for this year’s event a revitalised team of young Guardsmen with ferocious firepower. In the end, we were very fortunate indeed to halve the match on a wonderful balmy Autumnal day at Worplesdon. What makes this event so special is the friendly atmosphere in which it is conducted and the conviviality of the lunch in the Clubhouse. For the four years from 2014 to 2017, we won the event. Last year, we lost, and this year we just managed to halve. We have recently introduced a new format for the event, specially tailored to suit younger players with family commitments. It comprises a morning round in Foursome Greensome format, followed by a clubhouse lunch. This enables everyone to get away no later than 3 pm. For next year’s event, which is on SATURDAY 10th OCTOBER 2020 starting at 9 am at Worplesdon Golf Club, please could I make a special plea for any younger OH Golfers, perhaps who are new to the Society and would like to experience a thoroughly enjoyable morning’s golf in leafy Surrey followed by an excellent lunch, to make themselves known to me (andrew@agtax.co.uk) so that they can have priority status for the 2020 event.
Welcome to the OH Golfing Society, a website to serve old Harrovians who against their better judgement have succumbed to the gentle game. From here you can keep up with news, fixtures, knock-out draws, results, receive regular updates by email newsletter and more.
