Harrow entered their carefully selected team of 6, led by Andrew Aylwin for the first time as Captain, consisting of –
- Andrew partnering Viscount Foley Gort, a new recruit from Isle of Man with 3 handicap;
- John Sheffield (more strength from the northwest!) & Hugh Stevenson;
- Jeffrey Bonas & Stephen Bois;
Our first round v. Eton was keenly anticipated after our young team had beaten them in the Halford Hewitt in April to reach quarter finals.
However we seniors did not quite live up to expectations, with all 3 of our teams going down by various margins to a strong and consistent side.
- The first match narrowly lost 2/1,
- The second team took a severe drubbing with Eton’s pair going out in 37 shots.
- The third pair were down by 1 or 2 most of the round to experienced Jeremy Deedes & Christopher Palmer Tomkinson, but we rallied towards the end and only lost on the 18th. green when a birdie putt just failed to drop.
Slight schadenfreude in the afternoon when Eton with Jeremy Deedes were 3 up with 4 to play v. Charterhouse , but lost the next 3 holes to lose their decisive match eventually on 20th!
Repton beat Tonbridge in the final to take this year’s honours.
