A tournament to be held in the Midlands for Public Schools was conceived in the late 1930’s and the driving force behind it was one M. K. Foster.
Over 110 players from 13 schools now compete for five separate trophies at Little Aston annually. The foursomes format consists of 18 holes in the morning and 15 in the afternoon with great camaraderie and conviviality at lunch, afternoon tea and a well patronised Pimms bar at the halfway house.
In the 86th year of the tournament, it was a delight to welcome Stowe for the first time. Numbers were reduced as the team from Trent pulled out four weeks before the event. Two more schools will be invited for 2019. Wonderful June weather meant much quenching refreshment was required on the Little Aston terrace. The course was dry and running well, as one expects of heathland in a good summer. The greens were well watered and very receptive and the green staff are to be commended for their presentation of the whole club.
The Harrow team consisted of Jerome Ponniah and Mark, Alastair MacKenzie and Adrian Gracey, Thomas Olesen and David Norris , William North and David Moseley. The total score from the best 3 Harrow pairs was 84 compared to the Wrekin winning score of 95. This placed Harrow in the middle of the pack which was a good improvement on last year.
A special thanks to David Norris who stepped in at very short notice when Ross Bryan was required to attend a high-level business meeting Malta.
Next year’s match is being held on Wednesday 26th June and the Match Manager would be delighted to receive declarations of availability for selection from all OHGS members.
