Members of the OHGS will be greatly saddened to hear of the sudden but peaceful death of Michael Ross Collins just before Christmas.
Michael was a stalwart of the society, a vice-president, captain of the victorious 1975 Harrow Hewitt side and a supporter of numerous fixtures not least the annual beaks’ match at Hadley Wood. He was an ardent OH never happier than when trouncing Eton or Charterhouse at golf, or rackets.
He was above all else a most energetic, charismatic and generous man who nonetheless brought a keen competitive edge to anything he played or turned his hand to. His friends were national and international who came to know him through the varied interests in his life; London livery companies, arboriculture, insurance markets, gastronomy to name but a few.
He and his famously sunlit smile with which he greeted everyone will be much missed by those who knew him.
His funeral, held in Much Hadham’s large St. Andrews Church on January 4th, was standing room only , and graced by the presence of mother Stella, 104 years old and still as sprightly as ever, together with other family members.
