We had a very successful Autumn Meeting on Thursday & Friday 18-19th September, a little earlier in the year than normal, which may have accounted for the relatively low turnout. This was compensated for by some new and younger players being able to come and win some trophies. The weather was very mild but unfortunately with the wind in the NE we had sea scud on the first morning before it lifted to reveal beautiful sunshine and blue skies for the rest of the day. However, the cloud prevented us from seeing the sun on the Friday.
We had an excellent formal dinner in the Brancaster Staithe Saling Club on the Thursday night where Martin Price, captain of the Royal West Norfolk Golf Club, replied to our president’s speech. Our president kindly provided a double magnum of 1976 port which we consumed whilst singing Harrow Songs with music from a recording as we did not have a pianist this year. Nobody complained of a headache the next morning which was quite surprising!
We are grateful to David Blackburn who has subsidised the Spring & Autumn Meetings to reduce the cost for younger players even more than normal. making it a very low cost meeting for the under 30 year olds. We are also very grateful to the house staff at RWNGC who provided bacon rolls for breakfast and an excellent buffet lunch on both days, and to the greens staff who presented the course in excellent condition.
