Ronnie Watson, a stalwart of Halford Hewitt and particular Darwin golf for the OHGS, sadly died at the age of 91 on Monday January 31st. A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at Pett Church on Friday 18th February at 12 noon. Those attending will be welcomed to the Two Sawyers at Pett afterwards.
Ronnie was our President in 1988/9 and has the unique record of being a member of the sides when Harrow won the Hewitt in 1975, the Darwin in 1978 and 1996, the Senior Darwin in 1988 and the Veteran Darwin in 1996. and what’s more he won every match in which he played in the winning Darwin sides of 88 and 96. He also won the Veteran Darwin Handicap Event three years in succession.
A keen and active member at Rye, he played to his age (72) there in 1992 and on many more occasions thereafter,
Ronnie was an extremely modest and unassuming man who incidentally was awarded the MC for gallantry during the war.
