Sun 17th Jul
Played at Little Aston GC in June each year, Harrow has fielded a team for many years with varying degrees of success but always with enthusiasm and great sense of camaraderie.
Geoffrey Goddard, Team Captain and regular competitor has provided a report on this year’s performance.
Little Aston 2011.
One week out we looked to have secured a very strong team with a good chance of bringing home the silverware. Unfortunately, we lost 4 players in the last few days, urgent overseas business, family tragedies, etc. ( At least it is encouraging to learn that some OHs are working!)
As usual we had a jolly evening in the Plough and Harrow the night before with a full turn out.
Anyhow, we took to the field with 3 reserves, the organiser himself and James Amies recovering from injuries, and our redoubtable ex-captain, David Moseley, the Little Aston member, who is always reliable in a crisis. We played in beautiful English sunshine and good team spirit bolstered by the ever-present Pimms bar at the 8th.
The main prize in the morning is played as a stableford foursomes match with a maximum of 5 teams per school and the best 3 scores aggregated. It didn’t quite come together for us this year, scoring 89 points which was 10 shy of the prize, and 8th out of 13 schools.
In the afternoon, our ‘senior’ pair Messers Moseley and Wilson, with a combined age of 143, came a very creditable 2nd for the age prize.
