The Rix-Hill Trophy

The Rix-Hill is an annual knockout tournament open to all members of the Society. The GBP 25 entrance fee contributes to the cost of holding the final at a prestigious venue. The qualifying rounds are played at members' own courses so competitors have the opportunity to play on some very fine courses throughout the UK.

The competition is played on Full Handicap difference. For competitors playing their match at an 'away' course, there is an allowance of a maximum of two shots that may be added to their Handicap. This allowance is invoked where the away player has not played the course before or has not played the course for a number of years. Any concern over the interpretation of this rule can be relayed to the Hon. Secretary or the Rix-Hill Matchplay Co-ordinator, Neil Scaife, whose decision is final.

Finalists' costs for travel and green fees will be covered by the Society provided that the entry fees for that year are sufficient.  The usual format is to play a practice round or two and then play the final, and it is not unusual to play two finals at once.

There is no Rix-Hill silver trophy but the winner receives a very fine water jug inscribed with the OHGS crest and details of the occasion. The runner-up receives a smaller water jug, similarly inscribed.
